Well yesterday was my first ever day of hunting and it was very cool.
Went hunting for Elk, saw a squirrel, some crows, lots of flies and a mosquito.
Overall it was a great experience and looking forward to more of it.
Sure wanted to shoot than dang mosquito though.....:}

Good for you I have spent lots of time out in the bush unsuccessfully. I just enjoy getting out hiking, fresh aor, exercise and beautiful scenery.

It really was a great day, one fellow got an elk not too far away from us and I got to watch him gut it which was amazing to see.
He left the guts for the coyotes etc which I thought was very cool that hunters are proving a meal for the animals of the forest.

Hunting is many things to many people. Reconnecting with nature is one major positive. Good luck with your next foray.

^^^ I take equal enjoyment in sitting in a blind or on a ridge watching and listening to nature do its thing.

A successful doesn't necessarily involve dragging something home behind you. For me, it's enjoying nature and even better sharing it with my kids, getting to shoot something is just a bonus!

You will fast learn that 'hunting' is a term meaning 'taking a gun for a walk'. That in itself is very enjoyable. It is about the experience of being out an about. Shooting something is secondary. Your first day was a success.

Thanks for all the comments folks. Second day is done and it was better than the first, had 2 young coyotes who had no idea I was there playing away about 25 ft in front of me they were a riot.
Heard some elk calling not too far from me. As for me the best way to put is I saved money on shells today.
Take care folks!

Best part of hunting trips is the scenery, sound of silence, comraderie, clear skies and stars at night, how even a peanut butter sandwich tastes 100x better.
Worse part is smelling like burnt wood after a week and the need for a good scrubbing.
Oh yeah, a hunting trip really starts after the bullet has left your barrel!

That is what it is about, getting out and seeing the finer things in life.

Taking that mosquito is all in shot placement. Aim for a reproductive debilitating shot and you are good to go. They will leave you alone once the story gets to the other millions of mosquitos. :)
