Did my stock shrink?

The tri rail length isn't the problem.
To test your stock... And evryone should try this, usgi, or poly stock.
The gas assembly must sit tight against the gas system/front band locating surface. Once seated if gas lock tightens past 6oclock, we shim between this 90degree shoulder and the gas system.
At this point, a 1/32 drill rod is used to confirm barrel to cylinder gas port alignment by passing the drill rod thru the hole on bottom of gas system. Drill rod should pass through into barrel. It's easier with piston removed and also check to b sure spindle valve on side of cylinderis in the open or vertical position.
Once all this is done try and install the stock. If stock does not fit.... The stock is too long at the ferrule.
For ALL m14 stocks, wood, fiberglass and polyplastic, the stock should put NO forward pressure against the gas system. U.S. Military armorers specs call for a space of 15thou between gas band plate and stock ferrule. If this gap is not present, the stock ferrule becomes a recoil surface, increasing shooters felt recoil AND affecting potential accuracy

I had some difficulty fitting a 2007 M14 from Marstar, into a black Poly stock I got off the EE.

I took some time looking at the problem, & noticed that if I spread apart the magwell area by hand, the receiver dropped in a little bit more... Some gentle elbow grease & patience, along with a rubber mallet, got the barreled action to sit properly in the stock.

Cheers
Jay
