My dad came up for a visit and brought up his Ruger 10/22 for me to do some work on for him.
this is what we have.
1991 Ruger 10/22 Stainless Steel on Boyd Thumb hole stock running a stainless bull barrel.
the guts of the gun are all stock so that is what we are working on today.
so this is what i unpacked from the bag of stuff he wanted put in it;
and he's never cleaned it so this was also in the bag
so ripped the gun apart and gave it a hard cleaning with the G96 gunk remover.
then cleaned it up and oiled with the G96 Gun Conditioner.
since the stock was right there i popped out the stock ruger take down screw and put in the Dlask Hex Head Take Down Screw.
on a related note why do the Americans use flat headed screws on stuff like this?
dont they like the finish on the wood and metal?
i think every time i take off a flat head screw i always fly off it and take off some paint from somewhere.
then moved on and took off the trigger group.
replaced the rubber buffer tube with a Kidd one, the one with the rubber sleeve with the metal inner.
those are SoooOooOoOoOooo nice if you take your gun apart on a regular basis.
worth their weight in gold.
next totally gutted the trigger group and put in the VQ HP Action Kit, Auto Bolt Release and Strut.
reassembled the gun and its super nice now.
tested the trigger with the trigger pull gauge and its 2.3lbs.
set the set screw to a hair behind the break and its perfect.
i polished up his bolt for him and told him he should pick up a Kidd Bolt and charging handle, he said maybe later.
gun is super nice.
total investment for the day;
VQ HP Action Kit $147
VQ Strut $9
VQ Auto Bolt Release $14
Kidd Buffer Bolt $6.95
Dlask Take Down Screw $4.99
Total = $182
23 year old gun running better then new = Priceless
