Did they ever make a BAR in 308 with the BOSS? I'm looking for my first gun and this type of gun seems to fit the bill for what I want. An accurate semi auto used for deer hunting. I like the boss system as it seems to be a stop gap till I get more into hand loading. I'm open to any suggestions, if you have something better in mind.

Cheers,
Michael

I sat beside someone at the ranch with a brake and all I would say to a new hunter if you concerned about recoil reduction get a smaller calibre. I did see a browning 308 with the boss system on the ee. 308 is really not that heavy recoiling and I think a bar without boss would be really nice also. If you find one make sure you use hearing protection or you be using a hearing aid quick. If you search the exchange there is one for sale 900.

yes, they are out there. I would not want the Boss. I'm looking for a Shortrax walnut in 308 or 7mm-08. As mentioned, check out the EE, there is/was a 308 Bar with the Boss.

They did make them, but after owning a Boss equipped BAR, for a short time, I will never own another one. In fact, I won't own any BOSS equipped rifle again.

There is one on the EE right now with BOSS in 308. I have a BAR in 7mm with BOSS, love the gun. You wouldnt know it is a 7mm, my 270 BLR kicks harder. The previous poster is right, the BOSS can be a pain in the butt but they do work. I have to load for my BAR to get the maximum accuracy out of it, it doesnt seem to like any factory ammo in the high bullet weights that I want it to shoot. Browning is right, these guns will compete with bolt action accuracy. The triggers are not the greatest and not the best for a newer shooter but you will get used it.

Why didnt u like the boss system? I have never used it so any info would be helpful?

Cheers

Wondering what cal you owned with the BOSS system. Also did it have both the CR as well as the muzzle brake? They make a gun very easy to tune, but the the muzzle brake on my 243 wssm is rediculously, loud.Wonder if you did not like the gun or the brake.

I thought the BOSS was mainly for tuning the barrel to shoot a specific round better, it is more than just a brake isnt it?

The BOSS stands for Ballistic Optimization Shooting System, it is basically an adjustable weight on the muzzle to adjust the barrels harmonic vibrations. You can buy rubber doo dads that slide up and down the barrel of any gun that do the same thing. My BOSS works like a hot damn, you can tighten your groups substantially. It would benefit non-handloaders more that are restricted to factory ammo. And yes it is loud as hell with the muzzle break, like any muzzle break. I am not too partial too the noise however when I am recreational shooting I am wearing ear muffs so...... and when hunting, I hope that it only takes one round with my finely tuned rifle so I can tolerate the noise. Some guys like it some hate it, I am in the middle. It likes to come loose so you need to check it often.

Firstly, it took as many rounds to dial in the BOSS, as it normally takes me to develop a handload. Secondly, even with the BOSS fine tuned for each load, not all loads shot equally well. Thirdly, the BOSS was extremely loud. Fourthly, the BOSS came loose, and changed the point of impact. I had to resort to Loctite to keep it in place. Lastly, the BOSS equipped rifles have shorter barrels to compensate for the lengthy of the BOSS, so they produce less velocity, than the same rifle without the BOSS. My rifle was a 7mmremmag.

I think the BOSS benefits the BAR, being that it is an autoloader. The BAR is a darn accurate rifle when you find the shells it likes. I couldn't find any factory ammo ( only tried 4 different brands) that my 7mm liked, and I wanted it to shoot heavy bullets, 160 or 175 grain. I handload so that wasn't a big deal. On a good day when my shakras are aligned and the world is at peace LOL, I can put them inside 2 inch groups at 300m with 162grain Hornady SST's and hot loads believe it or not. I love my BAR, you have to be very aware of the sloppy creepy semi-auto trigger and once you get used to that, you are laughing.

Yes Browning did make the BOSS BAR in .308
I have one. Shoots Great and Im removing my add and keeping it...LOL!
Shot it again the other day. WOW! it's a Tack driver..200 Gr Norma
This rifle has the BOSS system and a factory Browning threaded non boss muzzel for hunting if you don't like the extra noise.
Gnorts its not for sale anymore.....KEEPER! I just bought 200 rounds of Norma ammo off the original owner who had this rifle in the safe sitting, well taken care of. 10 years unfired. He had bought 1000 rounds of Norma thinking he would shoot it. Never did. Total round count after friday is 30 . What a smooth action with little recoil. I have to keep it

Thanks for sitting on your wallet Gnorts...
