I've heard many horror stories, and horror stories disguised as "good value" stories. Anyone have any thoughts/reviews on one that's been bought in the last year or so?

There was one that showed up on my skeet range and it doubled twice in 2 rounds of skeet. Better fit and finish then previous models. That was last summer. Gun did feel good and fit me well. Id opt for a churchill if looking for a decent entry gun. Seen lots of the years and never any real issues

Heard lots of stories about the older 512. What's the issues with the 555. Mine is 3 years old without any issues. Only gets used for upland and some pasture clays though.

They have a reputation for firing both barrles on a single trigger pull. As for 2016 it was still a fairly common issue.

Only reason I'd buy one would be in 28 or 16. No interest otherwise.

I’ll agree with Brybenn and say that a Churchill is a better buy for an economic O/U. The Stevens 555 is better quality then its predecessor, but I know someone who had issues with his doubling. He had it repaired and it didn't double again, but I recall him saying that the gun loosened up a lot more than he anticipated given his round count. Maybe not an issue if its a hunting gun, but doesn't sound too promising for a high volume clays gun
