I bought an Armalite M-15 lower last week when I received word of the impending "badness". I don't normally react to heresay and rumours. But this particular source was enough to convince me to plunk down my money on the off-chance that that whatever you own will be grandfathered. I am not dubious about the forthcoming ban. My source is solid.
The only reason that it would not come to pass is that "the word got out" and they have since backed off. I'm not buying it for a second. As I said, my source is very solid. If he is wrong, then it is only because some last-minute deal was struck. But this came from a guy with immaculate credentials within the Canadian Firearms Communitiy, and he was convinced that all was lost. And no - it wasn't a "sales pitch". This person was sufficiently worried that he asked for my PAL so that he could transfer existing bulk restricted firearms to a private owner in the hopes that inventory in private hands would be entered into the registration system and therfore "grandfathered and transferable".
Whether or not anything actually comes to pass remains to be seen. All I am saying is that when this person speaks, I listen. I've been in this game for over 20 years. And so has my source. I have a lot to lose. He has more. I take his word of warning at face-value. Your mileage will no doubt vary, and that is entirely your business. Do what you will.
I will simply say that I have personally been subject to no less than three "Orders-in-Council" in my rather brief firearms-owning hobby. And look what those left me with. A bunch of "###y" and very expensive firearms that I am no longer able to legally fire - despite the fact that they are all legally registered and were formerly fine to take to a certified firearms range.
Just saying. Draw your own conclusions. I am not in the business of scare-mongering. Heck - I'm not in any firearms-related business. Believe and do what you like.
