That piece of mind is pointless and could induce a stoppage. Press checks don't work in the dark. I'll ask you what I've asked all in the thread. Why do you not feel confident in the rifle loading the first round, but feel confident with it after each press of the trigger??
It sure does work in the dark- under NODS it's as simple as a quick feel for the brass in the chamber. I don't understand what stoppage could be induced by 100% making sure that there's a round chambered and the bolt is fully forward.
The difference between me loading my first round vs my rifle chambering the next is human error. A press check is a buffer against me making an administrative error, or correcting a potential mechanical one prior to my COF
