***Did you lose a Tikka bolt?****

Not a rule. I dislike trigger and cable locks when transporting. I prefer not to drive around with a rifle wedged in my personal space while driving. If it’s an hour before legal shooting light why the hell would I drive around with it in the front seat? That’s just asking for a CO to wonder wtf you’re up to and give you the gears if you run into one into the bush. I do the same when I go to the range.

There’s no need to get defensive (post 15) when people ask why you’re going above and beyond what’s required by law to transport firearms. It’s an odd thing to do so obviously people are going to ask for the reasoning.

Having the bolt removed greatly increases the odds of problems. Lost bolt, forgotten at home or in the truck, greatly increasing the risk of dirt/debris getting in the action/trigger/bore, etc.

Is it a legal requirement in your province or just a personal thing?

The only time bolts come out of my firearms is for regular maintenance/cleaning purposes and then they go right back in. I don't want the surfaces of my bolt exposed to anything that could affect it's finish or function and the safest place for it is in the action. Tools should remain in their complete form and then silly mistakes don't happen when it counts. I don't take the chain off my chainsaw when i throw it in the truck either.
This is the only smart way. (y)
Conversely, storing guns in pieces is stupid as you pointed out.

That’s cool, I don’t live in Ontario. I’ll do what I want you do what you want k?
He's just trying to help you out by pointing out that contrary to what some think, the only legal requirement for NR transport is that it be unloaded. So if you want, you can save yourself the trouble and, by your own account, the risk of losing said bolt.

Cheers

So many people store their guns with their bolts someplace else "so the gun won't get stolen" and then forget where their bolt is. So many people asked for a replacement bolt over the years it's stupid.
I’ve made some decent money selling Lee Enfield bolts to those type of people. I’ve bought acouple cheap rifles due to no bolts. I had a spare Mauser bolt for one. Now if I could just find a Spanish Mauser model 1916 bolt. $100 couldn’t resist. Dumbest thing storing rifles and bolts apart and forgetting where the bolt is.

I store my rifles with their bolts removed to avoid damage, that way more can fit in the safe.
But the bolts are hung up on the inside of the safe door in a home made rack with clear markings.
Now, being an old fart, next time I'll go to the range and forget to put the bolt back in. lol, hasn't happened yet.

I remember a country living mother telling me about how she was home with her kids. They had the lights off to watch a movie for some reason and someone started moving around in the dark outside their house, rattling windows and testing doors and stuff. Her 15 year old son asked for permission to get 'the rifle' out from where it was kept and she gave it but when he asked if he could put the bolt in it, she said no, it was too dangerous. I had to bite my tongue on that one.

You dont need trigger locks or cables transporting. That's not a thing in AB. - dan

During the controlled hunt around here it’s common to see 4-6 guys in trucks with uncased and unlocked guns with side saddles full of shells. Or there’ll be the gun truck with everyone’s guns piled in the back seat when driving between bushes. CO’s and OPP are more interested in how many deer have been shot or how cool someone’s gun looks than anything.

The safety nazi types would have a meltdown seeing such horrific acts of unsafe gun use 😂

If that sign was in Quebec it would have the French first.

Have to wonder if they mean the firearm or the vehicle that has to be unloaded and dismantled?
