Die Problem

I had a stuck case in my 7mm-08 Lee die. I hammered it out using a punch on the end of the expander/decapping rod. Now I cant get the nut back on top of the decapper rod. I tried hammering a tapered punch into the nut to expand it (there are slots in the sides) but that didn't work. There is nothing obvious wrong with either part so I'm not sure where the trouble lies. Has anyone had this problem?

You've mushroomed the decapping rod. Use a new one, or chop it with a dremel if it's long enough to work right afterwards.

you can buy (or make) a stuck case remover fairly easily. It involves drilling out and threading the brass cartridge

Check to see if the top of the threads on your expander/decapping rod are flattened. acrashb is right there should be enough room left, for you to put the bolt back on and tighten it .Should you have to trim some off .

Thanks for the advice folks. I put the end of the rod to the grindstone for a few seconds and that did it. I guess I'll go back to using the Lee Lube.
