Die set up question LEE/RCBS

I use mostly RCBS dies and in the instructions for the seating die it says

put a case in the ram and run it all the way up ,then screw the die all the way down untill it touches the case ,then back off one full turn and set the lock ring(not word for word but somewhere along the lines )

I have loaded plenty of rounds this way and no problems and bullet is held nice and tight. At the last gun show I picked up a set of LEE 223 dies ,Now with not much experiance with lee dies it says :

put a case in the ram and run it all the way up ,then screw the die all the way down untill it touches the case ,then give it anouther 1/4 turn down and set the lock ring

so whats the deal with it? I dont feel I need the crimp can I set up the lee dies the same way as the RCBS?

How do you set up your lee dies?

Instructions? You read the instructions?
I adjust my dies for the rifle in question, regardless of manufacturer. Their instructions are only a starting point

The instructions you have for the Lee dies are probably for the collet dies.
They have movable cams inside that squeeze in and resize the neck of the case.
This eliminates the need to lube the cases but does not resize the shoulder or the body of the case. That is okay if they are going back into the same gun but not a good idea if you are reloading range pickups.

Any dies - Screw them down until they size the brass enough to fit your chamber.

If you don't want to crimp, set the seating die body as close as you can without crimping. If you want a crimp, set the die body closer until the desired crimp is achieved. Use the stem to adjust seating depth and oal.

And the collet die is not the bullet seater die. The Lee Dead Length bullet seating die does not add a crimp to the case whereas the RCBS die does. As always, when in doubt read the instructions. Lee has very good product descriptions on its website.
