Diemaco C8 worth the price?

Did you find the link? The numbers look about right and I think the $1850 is the unit cost including the Elcan right?

I asked a supply tech to look at the item details on their logic engines, I wouldn't be able to provide a link (I did physically see the price though on the screen).
I believe this price is without the Elcan as the Elcan will have it's own stock number and be tracked separately- also the search was specifically for the 5.56mm rifle and 5.56mm carbine.
I didn't search for the Elcan price but if memory serves me right (I found one in the training area and turned it in) they're $400ish according to the paperwork the guy who lost it had to do up.

Lucky for him you found it, haha!

Was it the actual value of the lost equipment or only what CoC ordered him to pay back? I've never seen anyone pay more than 50% value of lost equipment.

I’ve never seen anyone get away with losing an Elcan, haha! Ever course or Ex I’ve been on, lose something like an optic, barrel (or whole rifle, haha), no one goes home until it’s found. On my BMQ-L course, some idiot found out AFTER we got back to garrison that he lost a spare C9 barrel. No one was dismissed, the MPs were on their way down, and if it wasn’t for some WO who went back to the field and found it, we’d all be hung out to dry.

We search until we can't search anymore, after that we file the matter with MP's. There is a spare C9 barrel and a GPS somewhere in Fort ***** that can testify to that fact. The DAGR was valued at 1.5k I believe and the member was charged 50%.

But I digress, I emailed Korth to find out what the discount actually is. Of course, I'm more interested in a parts kit (especially a barrel) to build something more fun.

Matt K mentioned in post #112 that the green furniture is out of production. Not sure it will go back into production and how feasible that would be, So, what’s the closest Krylon rattle can color?

I saw a add in calibre magazine that there are a limited number of green furniture kits to be sold to mil/Leo.

My C8 on my last tour hand guards were spray painted green.

So it seems we're getting somewhere on cost. Price per unit to the military, and considering that's a government contract for thousands of rifles, it would be a bulk rate. They wouldn't be selling the same volume civi side, so that could explain I slightly higher cost.
Also, quality of parts would be a factor, the barrel being the biggest. If you follow ar part prices in the states (on sites like AR 15 . com like I do, you will notice that diemaco parts down there go for a significant premium as well). If you're curious, the parts made their way down there through LE contracts that colt US asked CC to fulfill. CC and Diemaco parts will be the same, having been manufactured using the same materials and tooling, I would assume.
Well it may not completely explain the price, these details to help in understanding.

Also, I agree about the green furniture being painted. I have seen green carbine handguards in the same material (almost like fibreglass) as the C7A2 furniture (they were on my C8A3 in 08/09), I have see the black ones painted green, and also tan as well.

The pricing is not justified. If these rifles are comprised of mostly contract rifle parts, then there is no additional cost to manufacture them, they simply use a different receiver and leave off the ambi bolt catch, jack the price through the roof and watch the goobers line up for them. These rifles are nothing more than contract overruns being sold to screaming fanboys who just want the roll mark.

Having Korth as the sole distributor is an easy excuse to play the "we don't control the price" game. CC doesn't care what the price is, they already sold their rifles to Korth for likely $1500 a unit seeing as Korth's dealer price is $1899 a unit. I bet CC spent $500 a unit to produce them. CC makes a tidy profit, and stays an arms distance from the "I can't believe ABC company is charging XYZ price!" label. Korth takes the frontline heat for the stupid pricing, and CC cashes in..

So you will only purchase one then? The cost seems a wee bit high for one of each. Just saying.

Would it be normal for Colt canada to be using Cerro Forge uppers and lowers ? all the new Colt Canada colts have Keyhole forge marks on upper and lower, which would be cerro forge no ?

Cc and colt USA are the same company. so explain the price gouging?

Tdc

I thought I stated the gouging when I stated the middle man being Korth was responsible for a significant and un-needed mark-up. Also when I compared USA Colts versus CDN made Colts regardless of any Canadian Gov.'t contracts there still are a lot less (like many tens of thousands) of CDN Colts being made then USA Colts and that along with the higher quality of the Canadian rifles is why the CDN Colts are more expensive then the USA Colts.
