Hey guys. Looking to pick up a 15.7 and put on a flat top rail but want to keep the 15.7 barrel. Apart from the usual taper pin removal from the FSB, anything else to be aware of? Is the barrel sleeve press fit or will it just slide off once I get the flash hider off?

If anyone's some this and has pics, it'd be appreciated.

The sleeve should just slide off. I have seen a few that had to be heated slightly. Other than that, it's the same as any AR from a mounting prospective.

Daniel Defense makes a genuine free-float drop-in quad rail called the Omega. The 7.0 Omega works perfectly with the CC 15.7 SA without any disassembly or permanent alterations.

Dave is right, the sleeves come off easy - unless the barrel is damaged.

Drop in is a much better option. Most people won't notice any significant improvement by FF over the heavy short barrel on it's own. Troy also makes a great drop in rail.

The most common way for an untrained user to destroy a barrel is to take of the front sight forging and replace the taper pins too far. It is possible to damage the barrel severely by driving them in just a little too far. Also the Geissele, which is a great rail, requires un-breaching and replacing the nut. This could affect your warranty.

If you are going to remove the sleeve, take note of the orientation of the torque limiting washer and install a new on the same way. Backwards installation will affect accuracy and don't re-use the washer.

Haha
I'll post some pics soon. The front pin on the gas block was a bitc# to take out. Rear came out with a good hit from the punch.
Rail is on and everything looks awesome. Have some V7 parts on there I've been holding onto.

Numerous V7 parts, AAC carrier but kept the CC bolt, K2+ grip, Geissele 13" rail, BAD safety. Waiting on my Geissele SSA trigger now.
If anyone has any tips on getting that damn castle nut off so I can change out the plate, I'd really appreciate it.

It's probably staked against the receiver end plate so it doesn't loosen up by itself. Just use a hammer and an appropriate punch that suit your needs to get that metal off to be able to unscrew it.

Guys, just to clarify:
Not the first AR I've worked on. I have the appropriate tools and went about it the usual way I do. Proper wrench was used to try to take off the castle nut which usually comes loose problem free even if it's staked.

I actually broke the nib off my castle nut wrench trying to get it loose.

Does colt put loctite on these like some other brands.
