Im in the market for reloading dies for a 308win... The gun would be a savage le2b. Im wondering if i should go with the lee dies with the collet neck sizer. Or should i look somewhere else? I don't want to spend more than $50right now.

Maby I should try some hornday dies... I have some rcbs for 762X54r but im unimpressed with them.

I shoot long range with my Savage 10FP-LE2B in 308 and all I use is the Lee Collet dies...works for me and a lot of other guys that shoot with me:D

got a favorite load you would like to share? I plan on trying same 168amax behind some varget in fed gold medal match brass. Im going to break in the barrel with some fmj with some winchester powder(i think).

If you only have $50 to spend buy the LEE Deluxe Collet set, this will give you a neck sizer and FL sizer in the same set.

The 168 is a good bullet, powders for the 308 are never a problem, if you don't already have some try Varget, IMR4895 & 4064, AA2520 these are my favorites but there are others by VV and Aliant that also work well. WLR primers are also reliable performers for priming.

I hope this is a typing error. Pistol primers are usually softer than rifle primers and can rupture under the pressure that rifles develop. That's why the 454 Casull uses rifle primers even though it is a handgun cartridge. It makes pressures in the 60,000 PSI range.

I'm getting great results with:

IVI 79 brass
WLR primers
43.5gr IMR 4064
165 gr Sierra GameKing bullet

168 gr Sierra MAtchKing (Moly) worked great with this too.

Sorry, I'm using Lee FL.....My savage is shooting so well with FL sized brass, that I haven't yet seen a need to try neck sizing only.

That recipe will shoot 1/2 MOA consistantly (if I don't drink a pot of coffee on the way to the range)

I had a really nice set of RCBS .308 dies, worked really well, just sold them to a cousin to get him into the game. I've got a redding set on order now....but that's a couple hundred bucks.

I use RCBS competition dies and they are working great but I haven't used any other dies with this rifle so I have nothing to compare to. They are also in the $200 range. I use Lapua brass and neck size only(so far) and with 43.5 gr of varget, 168 gr SMK and CCI BR2 primers I am getting one ragged hole at 200m. I believe this rifle to be inherently accurate(Sako TRG 21) because no matter what bullet/powder/primer combo I use I get .5" groups at 100m, so take these results with a grain of salt.

Best of luck.

The fact that I don't have to lube up the cases before resizing and then clean them off afterwards sold me on the collet dies. The brass stretches less too so you don't have to trim to length every time either.

I have a set of RCBS dies I used a couple of times only. They are excellent but I picked up a Bench Rest Match set and retired them soon after purchase. $35.00 mailed to your door. If you want.
