Dies for a pro1000

So given that the pro1000 is a 3-station progressive press, does that mean that you must use proprietary Lee dies to get all the steps accomplished? I think Lee does that powder-through-expander die bit...but maybe everybody does that, I don't really know.

Frankly I don't know very much about reloading at all...bought a pro1000 to figure it out and load pistol ammo in case of zombies.

On the Pro 1000 you have to use Lee's powder through die with powder measure for the caliber you are reloading. But you can use any dies for the other positions , as long as the depriming is in the sizing die. If you have other dies and know what you are doing you can play with all kinds of combinations but if you are just starting get a set of Lee carbide dies for the pistol caliber you want to reload ( LEE dies fit their presses, are inexpensive and usually available). Did you get a used press from someone or a new one with all the instructions, because instructions are available at www.leeprecision.com look in the index.

Oh, thanks, good to know. It was a used press with plenty of trimmings cheap, I will pick up the lee dies, and get some instructions off that page!

I figure this press will get me going, and then somewhere down the line when it starts to wear out on me, I'llget a Dillon progressive press.

yeah! Trust me go LEE. You will be so happy when I breaks and you see the nifty features the competition has to offer. (rcbs) I was grinning from ear to ear when my safety scale wouldnt hold a zero and kept sticking like no get up, and I got a 505 (Thank you Mr.Bartel) Good starter kit none the less
