Dies...

Bought a press to start reloading. Next step was dies. Talked to a local shop up here in Grande Prairie and they put what I wanted on order. It's been almost 3 months and nothing has shown up. Every time I stop in they say the dies didn't come in on the last shipment. I keep getting told I will get a phone call. They haven't taken any money (not that I didn't offer just to secure the dues as mine) so I'm debating taking my business elsewhere.

This is what I "ordered". All dies are redding. Easier if I keep the same brand for all dies.

type S dies for 308
223 and 300blk for my AR
38 super
45acp

Are these dies hard to get in or am I getting the run around? Anyone have a suggestion for an alternate dealer?

just order from brownells or midsouth shooter supply in the US

What he said, sometimes the specialty dies are not stocked by local resellers and because of low volumes sold they don't get priority from distributor / manufacturers

I just pick up the phone, and call Sinclairs, and in a couple of weeks, I have my dies.

I'd call Del in Vernon. He has a good selection of new/used stuff.
Might do it all in one phone call.

I like the Redding S die for 308.

For the pistol calibers, do yourself a big favour and order dies with the carbide sizing die. I use RCBS and Lee. The carbide die does not require the brass to be lubed, so it really speeds things up.

Chances are the dies haven't been ordered because you didn't give 'em a deposit. Pretty standard thing to pat up front for ordered stuff. In any case, how long it takes depends on the shop's supplier. If they have it in stock think in terms of a week, months if they don't.
The 300 Blackout will likely be a special order thing. Although Budget Shooters Supply is listing Hornady's at $52. The .38 Super might be too. In any case, like Ganderite says, carbide only for pistol dies.
Buy RCBS just for the warrantee.

I offered to pay up front / give a deposited but they said they prefer payment once the goods get in. Guess I'll just run through site sponsors and see what they all have to offer or what sort of time line they can get for me.

So far the local shop hasn't been able to give me a timeline or price on the dies....

I bet they might have the ones you want ?

Just dont expect them to know much more than if they have it ;-)
