Difference between 11-87 and 1100???

Different gas system.

The 1100 was pretty simple. The 11-87 has an 'auto regulating' gas system, and can supposedly shoot everything from light target loads to heavy game loads without issue.

My 1100 (with stock barrel) had trouble cycling light shells.

Stocks will interchange between them, but barrels will not.

1100's are made with either a 2 3/4 or 3". the ones with the 3" chamber have difficulty cycling light shells. the ones with the 2 3/4 chamber shoot light shells great.

as far as i know all 11-87's are chambered 3 inch. and mine cycle light shells fine.

there is a difference in the gas bleed ports on the barrels - one has 1 port, the other 2 can't remember which is which. some of the barrel's for the 11-87-slug/turkey versions can't cycle light loads reliably . A buddy of mine had that problem- we wound up gerting an aftermarket recoil spring assembly that cured the problem.

The 1100 doesn't jam like the 11-87 does. Just my opinion I don't want any 1187 owners jumping on me. My experience with both (I owned both) was that the 1100 was far more reliable.

cheers Darryl
P.S. I do have 1187 wood on one of my 1100's it is nice.

Do they both have those replaceable washers? Maybe the 105cti is the way to go these days?

Is anyone even stocking the Rem 105CTI these days. I got laughed at in November when I asked a shop owner to see one. They hadn't even made it to Canada yet.

Can anyone provide an update on this?

I have 2 1100's and they both cycle target loads without a hitch.

11-87 has 2 gas bleed ports, both 1100 and 11-87 have O rings and they do break. Both brand new 11-87's I owned jammed and one would not cycle light loads without a compensator ring ($20). Sold them or should I say gave them away. Be careful before you buy one as it may work fine most of the time. Mine jammed even after cleaning it.

:D that was really good......

now back to hijacking threads,
If a 1100/1187 holds 4 shells in the mag can I put a +1 extension and not go to jail? I believe an extension that fits a 870 will fit a 1100/1187 am I correct?
the new tactical 1100 is itching me...

I know on the 1100, the 2 3/4" barrels have 2 gas ports and the 3" barrels have only one. I have a Magnum 1100 that would not cycle target loads reliably, especially in cooler weather. Instead of replacing the barrel, I cheated, and installed a lighter recoil spring. Now she cycles the lightest target loads. I have this gun for trap only, and I would not shoot heavy field 2 3/4" or 3" Mags without changing the recoil spring back.
