I am looking at the Mossberg 590's to replace my Fabarm I just sold. What is the difference between the 590A1 Special Purpose and the 590 Special Purpose? What is the significance of the A1?

I was looking at the 590A1 Special Purpose 20" 9 shot with ghost rings and speed feed stock Mossberg Item #51668.

Then I saw same thing only it's not the A1 Item #50668

What am I missing here?

the trigger groupe on the a1 is made of metal as is the safety button whereas the 590 special purpose is made of polimer on the trigger groupe and the safety. I love my 590 with or without all steel parts

the 590 a1 i believe has a heavy barrel and a metal trigger group and safety while the 590 has plastic components for the safety and trigger group and a lighter barrel .

the 590a1 i was looking at in milarm had a thicker barrel wall as well as the metal components now that it is mentioned . and the barrel config is a little different on some as some haveghost rings and some are bead sights

I have a 20" A1 with Bayo lug and ghost ring sights and an 18.5" model with ghost ring sights. The difference in weight and portability is quite noticable for me. The 20" is my range baby, while the 18.5" hits the woods as I can change to hunting type barrels on this model.

If I wanted a lite gun I never would have sold my Fabarm. In fact I want a heavy gun to help soak up a little bit of recoil. Plus I wanted a side saddle for shells.

It will ride with me on the quad and in the truck. I don't do much walking so weight's not really an issue for me.

Here's mine the day I brought it home.
