Hello there,
I have been searching for the difference between a Colt 1991 and a regular 1911.
The interwebs gives me a tonne of misinformation, such as 1991 has a different backstrap etc, but I found photos that proved this theory wrong. I am hoping there are some nutz out there who own and know the difference between these models.
Most prevalent I have found is that there is some sort of firing pin safety and de-cocking mechanism on the 1991.

Thank you

google made it easy:
a) Return to the pre-1970 solid bushing (this was done around 1987).
b) change to a flat MSH and long trigger, both synthetic,
c) Tall, three-dot sights
d) relieved ejection port.
e) retains firing pin safety of prior 80 Series.
f) Simple "1991a1" left slide roll mark
g) synthetic grips.
h) economy matte Parkerizing (later blue, still overall matte)

Thank you :)
Your Google foo beats my Google foo. Now to find out what these things mean to me. And off I go again to consult the Oracle. I mean, Google.

A "regular 1911" will be as Browning designed it, without a firing pin block 'safety' system in it. :)

Your question is somewhat ambiguous.
Colt brought out the Colt model 1991A1 in the earlt 1990's as a specific model line in blue carbon steel.
Colt adopted J.M.Browning's model of the 1910 45acp model that won the US Army trials competition in March 1911, and promptly re-named it the Colt 1911.

Are you asking/comparing the US Army 1911 pistol vs the Colt (commercial) model 1991A1?
