Lookin at buying a cantilever Deer gun.
Whats the difference between the Mossberg 535 and 835 pump shotguns?
Is one better then the other? and why. Can barrels be interchanged with these two models?

Thanks Tikka.

no barrels can't be interchanged. i have both the 835 and 535 . either buy the 835 greatest gun ever or if in sk i'll make you a great deal on a brand new 535

What is the weight difference between the two? Do you feel that the quality of the 835 is better than the 535, or the design?

I believe the difference is in the design with the Overbored barrels ported barrels so it patterns like a 10 guage using 12ga shells, IMO the action is pretty solid I haven't had one issue with it. Weight wise it's lighter than the 870, and has a pretty good recoil pad on it.

As BAR says, I believe the barrel starts off with 10 guage diameter and shirks down after an 1'' or 2 shirks back down to 12 guage... My understanding is you can not use slugs with the 835 because it might tumble.....

the 535 is very front end heavy and feels like a tree in your hands. the 835 swings great and feels like a golf club in your hand.

i have a 535 with a 26 inch barrel so front end weight is not a problem i also have a 870 and i like the 535 much better it is a great shot gun for the money never let me down yet .DUTCH

Having used both I think that the 535 is made of cheaper materials and more plastic, hence it's lower price. The 835 has an overbored barrell and more pot metal or stamped parts in place of plastic. The reason I traded my 535 is because I didn't think its plastic would hold up to the goose hunting I do.

You can get a rifled slug barrel for the 835 and shoot sabots. I had a ported slug barrel on my 835 and was fairly happy with it.
