Difference between plain Prostaff and Prostaff5 Nikon scope?

Hi everyone!
I was wondering what the difference (posted in another thread, but this really should be in it's own thread) was between the plain Prostaff and the Prostaff5? Mainly looking at the difference between a Prostaff 3-9x40mm vs a Prostaff 4-16x42mm. Are the lens exactly the same and all, and it the difference only in the magnification? I'm guessing since they are difference sizes (40mm vs 42mm), they don't use the same lens.

Appreciate the help from some of the more knowledgeable folks here!

Few more bells and whistles on the P5. 4X erector vs. a 3 and side focus instead of AO. They both use fully multicoated lenses but the glass in the P5 should be a bit clearer.
