Besides the obvious difference in sizes between the two types, is there a difference in the amount of spark? (The technical term is "brisance", I believe)

Would be pe possible/safe/advisable to substitute rifle primers in place of shotgun primers? (Taking into account the size difference of course)

Thanks

Brisance is the speed of detonation. shotgun primers are Berdan primer inserted inside battery cup with an internal anvil. The compound weight is different between types. I have all the tech sheets here if you are interested.

The big goofy ring in the base of the case may not allow the use of a standard 209 shotgun shell primer. That was my concern.
I have not properly measured a SG primer to compare with the ring diameter yet.

Have fun at IWA!

Interesting info in the link. I knew that the chamber was goofy but didn't know that they had the lugs on the bolt face.

Makes building ammo a real challenge. Without the lugs it might be possible to neck down existing brass 12ga shells or make a chamber insert that allows you to fire 16ga or 20ga shells.

Good luck in your endeavor to get your Greener shooting.

In the lastest issue of handloader mag, they profiled a guy that all he does is solve problems like yours. I think he mostly deals in rifle but might be worth giving him a shout. He has full machine shop and is doing some pretty cool stuff. I will look up his name and number tonight.

Does he have a method of making rimfire cases?
I also have a Swiss Vetterli rifle in .41 Swiss rimfire that desperately needs to be fired!:dancingbanana:

If you are worried about any ballistic differances between the two primer choices I don't think it would matter for Magtech shotgun brass comes with large pistol primer pockets and they work fine for the gauges I have used

Just my 2 cents.

Here's Bob Hayleys number if anyone is still interested 904-888-3352. Tootall in the article it says he makes 38 long rimfire using 357 cases and 22 blanks. Basically if he hasn't done it yet he will figure out a way. Interesting fella I wish I had a good reason to give him a shout
