Could someone explain the differences between a VX3 and a VX-III? I wasn't aware there was much different between them, but since a recently was asked a lot about a rifle I Sold with a VX-III if it was a VX3 I started wondering why all the concern.

Looking forward to getting schooled. Lol

Here's a quote taken from another site.
Not sure the validity of it. Tizz the internet.

Per an actual Leupold tech rep, the former VX-III is now the VX-2.

I didn't ask what made the VX-3 better as quite frankly I've always been pleased with the VX-III and now the VX-2.

K, I'll try.

Its upgrades include: an Extended Twilight Lens System, Diamond Coat 2 lens coating, blackened lens edges, second generation waterproofing, a twin bias spring erector system, cryogenically treated adjustments and a 24-karat gold-plated ring and medallion.

Translated; played with the lens coatings to improve low light performance at certain wave-lengths. Changed outer lens coating to make them harder to scratch. Different gas filling, it isn't nitrogen anymore it is now argon and krypton. The double bias spings are often referred to by shooters as "Mark 4 springs". Whether that is the exact literal truth I don't know, but it really got rid of any lazy adjustments. Its probably not a coincidence that the CDS system, new springs and hardened adjustments all showed up at the same time. When you start spinning a elevation turret like an aboriginie trying to start a fire that stuff has to track and last.

Well, the only Leupold I ever had that wouldn't track was a VX-2. I didn't know squat so I burned hundreds of bucks worth of ammo trying to zero the thing. I've got like 6 VX-3s now, and they all track.

Korth fixed the VX-2, and I sold it cheap.

Great info. There is a misprint on the Vari-xIIc. Sure is a lot of models, more off this chart plus Redfield stuff. It would be an interesting factory to tour.
