Can someone please tell me difference between the Yugoslav M59 and the Russian SKS? They look very identical and they seem to operate the same way. Is the M59 simply a re-named SKS? Is there different internal parts? What are the major differences?

Yea, I know the difference between an sks and a 59/66 is about $400 for an as new one!

Well Russians were made in Russian. Yugos in Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia made the M59 under licence from mother Russia. Like China the design was a copy. China actually started their version using the Russian toolings. Yugoslavia may have done the same but I'm guessing. Not sure if Romania got the toolings. All three got help from Russia in the beginnig.
Side by side comparison doesn't reveal much difference. Yugos lack a chrome lined bore. Don't think the firing pin is spring loaded either. The finish is nice though. I like it more than the Russian shelac job.
Price has more to do with rarity. Given non-refurbed Russian SKS in good condition are selling for $1000 in the US given they can't get anymore, you'll see why Yugos are worth more.
Westrifle posted that the last of the cheap Russians are gone and prices will go up.

Prior to mid 1951 Russian SKS was not chrome lined...after that... it's all chrome
