Hey guys, new to forum. I'm looking at Deer hunting rifles and I was looking at the savage 110.
I noticed that people got it online for less than 300 sometimes, but otherwise the price range really varies from like 200-1000 (ish) except for the BA which looks so ###y in my opinion.
So I'm wondering what the difference is between these cheap variants and the more expensive (up to $800) versions of the same gun.

As Darryl stated just features and finishes. If you are new to hunting and shooting, why not consider a Stevens? It's made by Savage, and it is a 110 action and barrel. It won't have any extras like an Accu-trigger or any of the other features, but in my option you couldn't go wrong with one. If you like it, you can always upgrade in a few years. If you don't, you're not out much money! They should be somewhere around the $300 mark.

i wouldn't bother with the stevens . go for the the savage package gun. scope is crap. rings so so but you get detachale mag and a better finsihed stock and i found that the action screws isn't as loosly drilled and tapped.

once you move to accu trig models i found the finsh and bluing to be much better

I just bought a Trophy Hunter XP International Youth in 243 for my wife and daugther and was pretty inpressed with it - I was prepared to replace to weave scope if I needed to but once I got the package into my hands and gave the scope a good look over I am impressed - in particular I need a scope with good eye relief and I did not have to move the scope to accomodate my eyes - when sighting in I was able to cover my 9th, 10th and 11th shot with a quarter - for just over $500 I would recommend this package to anyone - for a deer rifle and am partial to the 308 Cal - I purchased mine at WWS but they are being carried by most retailers now.

I bought a stevens in 308 a couple years ago as my first (bought by me, not shooting one of Dads) hunting rifles. Shot awesome. However in the end the blind mag drove me nuts.
Recenlty helped a co-worker get into a brand new 110 that was on sale for $300 with scope and rings already set up. . Dosn't have the accutrigger, but with the detatchable mag, in my opionion is way nicer to work with then the stevens was for me. In the end having to chamber each round to empty the rifle before hoping back into a truck was just frustrating.

I've since upgraded to a Weatherby Vanguard and won't look back. I know you are looking specifically at Savages at the moment, but if you have time, maybe have a look at a Vanguard as well. If you can find a place that still has the "Series 1" rifles, they're priced pretty close to a 110 now that the S2's have come out.

Good luck and have fun :)
