Differences between Norinco, Chinese and Russion

I am curious if some of you in the know could post the specific differences between the different origins of the SKS rifle.

I wont be able to purchase one until mid-march, and by then I think I will miss out on the russian ones from SIR. My question is, if I were to buy one from Frontier or Marstar, will I be happy with the Chinese alternatives?

Yes you should be happy with the Chinese variant. I have one and it is an excellent shooter. There is a sticky on this forum that deals with the differences. Do a search and you will find all the infor you need. Calum is the resident expert and I am sure will pipe in.

you wont miss the russian cos the billing wouldnt be till they ship, thats in early april.

So I am taking it that they all function and shoot identical to each other then? If that be the case, then I wont be so worried about missing out on the genuine Russian Refurbs, and set my sights on a Norinco copy if no others are available

Yup they are identical in function and form.

Quality differs from version to version with the Later Chinese models being less then pretty.

My Milarms Norc SKS is butt ugly; there's actually a spot on the foreend where they nailed a splinter back onto the stock. But it shoots really well. I'm happy with it.

Then again, I wanted a shooter, not a collection piece.

i would say, there is a vast differences in quality and history (better) with early chinese and russian then the newer norinco which was produced strictly for commercial purpose.

no real difference in the performance so you might as well use a norinco as a shooter cos the early chinese gonna cost you alittle more and some russian (collector grade) gonna cost you hell of alot more than that.

If you take a look at surplusrifle.com and click on the SKS link on the left hand side of the screen, they have an article about someone who did a comparison between a couple different SKS's from different nations. In short, he found them about the same when it came to accuracy and reliability. I suspect that the tolerances in bore diameter might be a bit more variable on the later, commercially produced Norc SKS's, but at least you'd be getting a new rifle rather than a heavily used or refurbed sample.

I certainly would prefer the history of the Russian SKS, which having been produced after the war should be of decent workmanship (lets not forget that they were produced back in the days when people actually feared the Russians, lol). My Chinese one however has served me well, and I would not discourage you from purchasing one.
