Curious if anyone can point out the differences between these 2 rifles? Savage's site isn't super helpful. The only differences I can tell (other than $300 price difference) is the TR has a 1" longer barrel (22" vs 21"), the TR has the much nicer Boyd's stock, a tactical bolt knob and a factory rail. I don't care about the stock as I'll be dropping it in a chassis, nor do I care about the rail as I'll put a DIP 20 MOA (or something similar). So for my intents and purposes, it seems the only differences are a 1" longer barrel and the tac bolt knob, did I miss anything? Also, how hard would it be to get a tac bolt knob put on? Just get the factory nob ground off and threaded, same as for a Rem 700? Or could a KRG bolt lift be made to fit? Looking at putting together a "tactical" trainer. Thanks for your help!

I believe the TR has shallow flutes on the barrel, but other than that...I think you have it covered. The TR is a nicer gun to shoot, owing to the stock geometry and proper-sized bolt knob. You can get the TR bolt as an aftermarket part, Grech Outdoors in Mount Forest ON (Savage warranty service shop) did this for me, very reasonably priced too.

I've owned a 93FV (.22WMR) and spent a fair amount of time behind a 9317 TR shooting gophers in Alberta. NO question that the TR stock is 10X better than the standard FV one, but if you're not keeping it anyway...

As an option~there is a market for those TR stocks if you bought one of the TR models and decided to swap-out the stock.

Thanks for the info! I agree, the stock on the TR is nice, I had the same Boyd's Pro Varmint on a Rem 700 for a while. I'll be putting the Mk II in a chassis though and I'd rather not have to sell off the stock. I realized the FV-SR has the tac knob and is barely more than the the FV but it only has a 16.5" barrel which won't be a very good trainer for my match rifle that has a 26" barrel, haha. I contacted Grech Outdoors to see how much the TR bolt is and since they appear to have a FV in stock anyways, I figure they could install it as I assume it would need to be headspaced?

Anybody have experience with the Riflebasix SAV-RAT trigger? Looking for something to simulate my Trigger Tech...

John Grech could answer that, but only a portion of the bolt gets replaced if memory serves...not the entire thing. As for the trigger, I've never bought a Rifle Basix for Savage, but I have upgraded both of my heavy-barrel Marlin 917s with Rifle Basix triggers and they truly are superb.
