What are the differences between the CROSSFIRE 8X42 and DIAMONDBACK 8X42 binoculars? The Diamondback is significantly more expensive (~90$), and yet these seem almost identical. They're both described as "roof prism" binoculars and when I compare them using the comparison feature, they have the same features, field of view, glass coatings, etc. The only differences I can see are what gas they use for the fog proofing and minimal differences in dimensions and weight.

Why would the diamondbacks be worth 90 more bucks?

I checked one of the main, non sponsor, sites for Vortex details and there doesn't seem to be much difference in the specs like you noted. I have the Vipers as they seemed better than the Diamondbacks when I did a test outside the store that sold them. I do a lot of birding and the consensus is that you get what you pay for. With that said have you tried a comparison of the 2 side by side at the same time. The Diamondbacks were pretty good but the Vipers were a bit lighter and better.
I usually buy things like this to last, my first decent binoculars lasted 30 years and I hope the Vipers will last as long. Vortex has an extended warranty that if required works well. My son uses razors, the more expensive ones, for really hard work conditions and he had them replaced after 8 years. In that time they had improved a lot and were lighter.

What do you intend to use them for? I have 10x42s and my wife has 8x42s not much price difference but I like the increased magnification while she likes the wide field of view.
