As I've posted before I have a lot of FTE problems with my M&P9 and certain ammo. Fiocchi and Winclean are nothing but trouble although other guys are using the same batch without problems. I've discovered that American Eagle on the other hand works like a hot damn. I've tried 115 and 147 grain AE and have yet to have a FTE in several hundred rounds.

Would the Federal ammo be higher pressure and does the fact it works well in this gun indicate there's something that can be done to the pistol to get it to function better with other ammo? The warranty depot says there's nothing wrong with it but I'd like a gun that'll feed whatever I happen to have. Being restricted in which ammo I can use sucks.

Stay away from Fiocchi - ask Slavex.

Winchester WinClean, I've found, is low powered and doesn't make PF in any of my guns, except the 147gr and it barely makes it.

Federal, on the other hand, PF's in all loadings and I've never had them balk in my guns.

Time to start reloading.

Hmm I've only shot my reloads in my M&P (and NEVER had a single jam!) so to me it's hard to imagine it malf...

According to manufacturers specs out of Win, Rem and AE ammo Winchester ammo is the hotest! IIRC AE 147gr is the weakest - 295 ft-lbs accoring to the specs on the box... Never chronied it...

There was an issue with a batch being double charged or no powder, it was recalled. I use it and have no problems with it, although it is almost in +P range, works great in my M&P and in my 229 with the drop 9mm barrel.

The only time I have had ammo problems with my M&P is with a batch of reloads with a paticular bullet, they would not correctly chamber, I suspect the M&P has a fairly tight chamber.

Strange.

I have 1000 rounds of Winclean 115 Gr. through my M&P9 without a problem. I also have 1000 rounds of Win USA 124 Gr. FMJ with no problems. I have 700 rounds of various other brands through it as well with no problems.

Sounds like something is not right with the gun to me.

Look again.

Perhaps a light polish job on your chamber might help. Some light work on the feed ramp might be in order too.
Check your extractor. Maybe it is not doing its job or it is undersized, poor tension, or the extractor face is chipped off.
Seriously consider reloading 9mm. There are some terrific 9mm bullet moulds in the market that just work. And you can tailor your load to what you like.

I had it sent to DC Charlton and they said no problem found but as far as I can tell all they did was fire 20 rounds through it and say it was good. Of course depending on the ammo they used it could either have 20 rounds go through flawlessly or 20 with several stovepipes. I'd think if it was something obvious they'd have spotted it. I was hoping this would kind of point to the potential problem, you know, like a weak recoil spring or something.

Unfortunately I'm not knowledgeable enough yet to check any of these things myself yet so I'm sort of at the mercy of the experts. Luckily the shop I got it from has been good so I'll talk to them again and see what they think.

As for reloading, I'll get there yet, but I just got my PAL in November and I've already spent $7k+ just starting my collection, not including ammo and accessories, and I've got at least 3 more "must haves" to go :runaway:

I have to be strategic about my spending to avoid the wrath if you know what I mean ;)
