Differences in Rem 722 versus Rem 700

Is there a lot of differences in the action configurations? I have a friend who says he wants to put a Rem 700 SA take off stock on a 722 action. From what he has heard they are very similar and it just needs a bit of opening up. Any takers on this?

It is not a straight drop in but it can be made to work very easily. The bolt handle cutout for a 700 angles down and back while a 722 bolt handle angles straight down. The safety is different but you could add a 700 trigger.. You can add the bottom metal from a 700 as well.
