Trap is a game where the targets are flying away from you. Sporting clays is a game where the targets travel in all sorts of directions. Skeet is a game played by crazy people who gather in little groups and shoot at close range targets that always fly in the same direction.

Which is the easiest for a Newbie to get into?
Here are the differences among the people who shoot the various games:
Trap shooters are fat, grumpy guys in overalls who spit and scratch themselves at the most inopportune time. They are never more than 27 yards from a Budweiser. They fart.
Skeet shooters are reedy, sissy-like and border on effeminate. They cry often and will have a hissy fit if you don't stand in a perfect straight line behind the shooter during a match. White wine spritzers all around for them.
Sporting clays shooters are usually on steriods, cheat constantly and will try and nail your wife in the back of their SUV between rounds. Prefer bourbon and coke and are often found in a puddle of their own vomit in the parking lot.
FITASC shooters are mostly Europeans who speak several languages none of them fluently. They say words like parcours and chandelle but if you speak harshly to them they will immediately surrender and demand foreign aid. They drink whatever you'll buy them but prefer Calvados.

At our club you will see single shot Cooeys on the ATA line right along woth high end trap guns, and cheap pump guns shooting with Kriegoffs on the sleet squad. Can you 'run what you brung' or will you be laughed off the range if you have the 'wrong' shotgun?

Most of us could care less as long as everyone is having fun.
Cat
Come on now Cat be honest.Don't you push just a little harder down on the stock to run them when their is a guy with a Kriegoff in the squad when you are holding a wingmaster. I know I do since years ago I was one of the K gun guys ( nothing against them) but guess what as the years passed I realised it didnot make me shoot any better and it was no fun shooting like a robot. I would say one of the best shooters we have still uses a model 12 with a big old cutts on the end.
Man does that thing bark
take care

IMHO skeet shooting is the most fun you can have with your clothes on...
