excuse the ignorance, I tried looking it up, but couldn't find any definitive answers.
I heard sr-15 mentioned somewhere, and besides it being a Knights offering, is there anything different that sets it apart from the ar designation? or is sr-15 nomenclature used synonmously?

SR-15's are just another AR system. KevB can chime in here and fill it is as he has a SR-15 upper. I dont think the lowers are much different than say an LMT...matter of fact I think they are made by LMT for KAC. Not certain on that though.

Boltgun

The funny thing is that the M203 on KAC website has LMT marking!! hahahaha

THe SR15 being talked about lately has the "E3" enhanced bolt.

Yup, there's always a catch, but there were a couple for sale from a PD in the States a while back - turns out Mayberry didn't need a full power battle rifle- very low round counts, mint condition too.

I thought they were on the non export list because they are contract weapons though?

Always wanted one.. probably cheaper to make a copy though.

AR-15 is a trademark owned by Colt. Nobody else can offer a commercial rifle under that name. But, all the patents are expired and now in the public domain, so people can copy the design, but never the name.

Hence SR-15, XM-15, LAR-15, etc. They are all the same thing. A company like KAC might have a few proprietary features on their rifles, but they are essentially just another AR-15 copy under a house brand.

the sr is just a designation for "stoner rifle". Eugene Stoner the inventor of the the AR platform, and original salesman for ARmalite a division of the fairbanks engine company of California. Eugene Stoner spent his last five or so working years before his death at KAC. Where most of if not all of rifles they now sale were perfected by Eugene Stoner. Oh SR-15 and SR-16 are the semi auto and auto versions respectively in 5.56, the SR-25 is the semi-auto version of .308 nato/winchester round. In the USA they can be used to hunt with mag limit of five in most states.

I have a SR16 ;)

Lots of little differences that set it apart from the typical AR, and a bit of a $ tag.
