Different approach to Henry AR - 7

Regarding the Triple K mags, they require some fitting. The AR-7 was originally produced by Armalite, then Charter Arms and finally Henry and apparently there are minor variations in the location of the mag keeper hole. This YouTube video shows a good way to fix the issue.

hahahahahaha, great, so i guess seeing as there is a pistol that accepts the same magazines we are gonna see these magazines get the old ban hammer just like the Ruger 10/22 - Ruger Charger issue.
 
I had fun doing this and it’s very accurate.
I made an adapter to take a Magpul stock and AR15 grip that holds an extra mag and used the butt plate of a Glock mag to hold it in.

I also machined a 5/8-24 thread on the breach end of a Dlask Arms Ruger 10/22 12.5” barrel and accuracy and reliability is amazing now.

Then I slotted the left side of the receiver so you can use left or right side charging and made a new brass bolt then can also is made to allow the bolt to stay open.

Also have a very rare to find Ramline 25rd mag. Pretty fun little guns to modify.

Yes, mac100 looks like a fun gun.. nice work.
Was the barrel easy to machine? Head spacing issues? Or just copy the original and call it a day ?

I just took the measurements from existing barrels and made a sleeve. It’s just screwed on with a 5/8-24 thread same as a muzzle brake. It was very easy. My lathe is an old belt driven one, so not hard to do.
The slotting of the receiver was done with a drill press and a cross vice. Nothing too high tech for this project.
I really love these little platforms. They may be the only AR,s left to own. Or did that make the turd list too?
 
Just started down the mod path with my son’s Henry AR-7.

So far we put:
Dan Haga adapter
Magpul MAG400 MOE Carbine Stock
Generic A2 handle
Dovetail to Picatinny rail
AR-7.com ventilated shroud (incoming)

Just got 3 Triple K mags and sadly found out they don’t fit so I will have to mod them. I’ll check the vid on how to fix them but 3 things I nprices were the hole is too low for the mag latch to engage, the stopper on the side seems low as well so when holding the mag in the well the bolt won’t close and finally the feed pops seem inconsistent and appear to have feeding issues.
 
The AR7's I handled & shot all had problems with a loosey goosey fit in the magazine well and I found the magazine catches on the gun usually had a poor engagent with the divot in the magazines themselves. Since the sideplate forms part of the magazine well and the sideplate is made of an unknown spec. of light metal alloy and is held on with one darned screw. Well that's a lot of ands. The magazines themselves are well designed with their own feedramps. One of my lazy pipe dreams when I considered the issues with my AR7 was to toy with the idea of making up a steel reciever for it for experimentation. Its always been hailed as the ideal survival rifle. How about up North when its minus sixty with the light alloy rcvr. & plastic stock?

To the o.p. you can get all steel barrels for these guns, the barrels had integral scope bases. Not sure if these are available in Canada probably not. Who misses the Feather AT22? Banned by OIC decades ago.

i twice owned an ar-7, both the older version with all metal barrel not the sleeved ones. they cycled fine with mini mags but accuracy was pretty bad for both so after he second one i gave up.
Just too bad because there are so many cool things you can do with them like OP did.
