Because you ordered a light weight barrel. C8 when first came out it featured a 16" light weight pencil barrel.

I have the da556 with 14" heavier barrel tht you are wondering about. I snagged it back in march when canam was blowing them out for 599, I think a lot of guys jumped on them at that time as that was much cheaper than other options, later that summer, well, lots of deals to be had

Because some people like the Government profile barrels because they look cooler, while others like the pencil barrels because they're lighter and more accurate?

Lighter barrels aren't more accurate, they often retain less accuracy while shooting because they heat up faster.

Maybe compared to a heavy target barrel, but not to a government profile, and certainly not one with an M203 cut. My pencil barreled Norinco and SP1s were the most accurate AR15s I've ever shot. I've yet to encounter any stringing from overheating, and I doubt anyone even possibly could with our 5 round magazines and no fun switch.

This is my 20" 1:9 pencil barreled upper with fixed carry handle sights I got from Canadaammo after about 200 rounds, and I shot the Norinco group first:

That's at 100yds

There's some sort of stigma against pencil barreled carbines but the reality is that they're accurate, they don't string, and they weigh nothing.

I haven't shot my DA556 yet. I just got it a few days ago. I am very pleased with the fit and finish though and at $499 it was a great deal. I do like the look of the heavy barrel but I knew what I was getting from the pic.
I'm going to put a cheapo red dot on it.
Perhaps these DA556's are from different manufacturers?
