Different sizing lube equals horrible chatter...

So I tried a different lube yesterday. It was the Lyman spray on stuff. The chatter of the brass going in and out was wicked. Also the brass was sized differently than that of previous brass sized on the same setup but using the RCBS stuff. I can understand that not all lube will work well with will every set up but the sizing difference is a mystery to me. It was about .002 difference. Or maybe I'm right out of her...
 
I use the el cheapo Lee lube. I like the idea of rubbing it on with my fingers. Gives me an opportunity to feel the cases for any defects my poor eyesigt may have missed.

Very consistent and easy to wipe off after.
 
I`ve been using RCBS lube for years. Got a heck of a deal once, been useing it for 25 years and have enough for 20 more. Tried a can of spray lube and was not impressed.
 
The spary-on stuff is NOT the best lube on the market, it's just really quick and effective if you use it properly. For harder resizing jobs i'd use a better lube, for sure.

I've had decent results from the spray lube for several years. What i like is how fast you can apply it, what i don't like is how indiscriminate it is - everything gets lubed, the brass, the table, the floor. Doing it on a big piece of cardboard you can toss afterwards is the way to go.

The spray on stuff is a little harder to use than just spray and pray. You need to get enough lube inside the neck to lube well. Spray down at a 45 degree angle from 8-10 inches onto/into the brass in one pass from each side - make the pass quite quickly, 1-2 seconds for 20 brass lined up. You should be getting lube inside the neck as well as on the outside of the case.

Great advice Jethunter, the only other thing I can add is to shake the can before using it, seems like it works better if you do.
 
I used to use the RCBS case lube (the greasy sticky stuff in the white tube) exclusivley, for over 20 yrs. I just got REALLY tired of using gasoline to remove the lude off the cases. Gas is the only thing that I found really worked well to get the sizing lube off the cases. And you could still burn the gas in the lawnmower! :)

I have stopped using everything but Unique case lube. Its very forgiving (unless you use too much then you get dimples guarenteed). It can be used to soften leather gloves, ball gloves, shoes and jackets. Its a weather treatment for leather as well (I still use dubbin for my boots). The best part is if you have some in the case when you seat a primer or pour powder it won't cause a dud round. It won't harm the powder or priming compound.

It gets a huge 2 thumbs up from me!
 
Best stuff I have ever used! When I neck down cases for my 6mm/284 wildcat this is the only lube that works perfectly. I also use it on the brass part of my 10ga shotgun hulls!

I've tried all the spray lubes except for the Dillon.
They all suck to some degree.
I'll probably purchase the Dillon spray lube to try it out.
The worst that can happen is that I'll have an extra bottle in my useless lube drawer.

I prefer using the RCBS #2 lube in RCBS Lube Dies when working on a progressive press.

As far as one at a time it's hard to beat both Unique and Imperial.
 
I was wiping lube on with a cloth or my fingers but it was a PITA.

I'd mixed up my own spray lube with the Unique Lube and 99% rubbing alcohol. then just pour into an old Off insect repelant bottle. A few squirts in a large ziplock bag, roll the brass around. The take out an let stand for 1/2 hour or so. The alcohol has to evaporate otherwise the stuff does not lubricate worth too hoots. I was too impatient before and I had the problem of pulling the rim of the brass.

After sizing just throw them in the tumbler to clean up.
 
IMHO the trick to using spray case lube is the method you use to apply it to your cases. I use a clean empty plastic peanut butter jar and place the brass to be resized inside. Then I spray some case lube inside the jar and quickly replace the lid. After shaking the jar for a minute or two I open the lid and place the jar horizontally and pluck the brass out one at a time for resizing. No wasted lube in the atmosphere, no mess and no stuck cases.
 
I'm still using the RCBS lube pad for rifle cases. Gets your hand greay but works great and never had any issues. I've never heard anything but great things about Imperial Wax but I don't necessarily want to rub each case individualy.
