Two words for you: Robinson XCR! Non restricted and very cool looking indeed... kind of a mix between an MP5 and AR type in my opinion. It will destroy anything varmint related with ease, but you really lose a lot in accuracy going semi auto. That Mini 14 target with the fancy "heavy barrel" and harmonizer is a waste of money! If you remove the plastic cover/handguard you'll see it doesn't actually have a heavy barrel! I was shocked when the guy at the gun shop showed me this, because I was about to buy one until I saw that the heavy part of the barrel shrinks back to the normal size when it ducks out of sight under the handguard so nobody is the wiser.
If you want a varmint rifle that will be pure pleasure to shoot and has a beautiful tactical look to it, go pick up the Tikka T3 Tactical with the heavy barrel. I couldn't afford it so I opted for the stainless steel T3 Varmint, heavy barrel instead and saved $700. My rifle is pure pleasure to shoot and it cloverleafs at 120 yards with ease. It probably cloverleafs at 200 too, but I just haven't tried it yet that far out. It's bolt action, but there isn't a need for any follow up shots with that kind of sub MOA accuracy, and there's no smoother, faster action out there from what I've seen. Sorry if I sound like a commercial, but it's the truth! Before you decide on a semi auto hold a Tikka T3 Tactical and tell me you don't love it, and that it doesn't satisfy your desire for a military-looking rifle.
