#2 in the "what is it?" catagory....a remington UMC pump in 30 remington.

Best I can tell, it's in the model 14 series of pumps....but how to tell if it's a 14, 14 1/2, or a 141?

Also curious as to it's value. Serial Number: 5### Condition: Really very good, light surface rust (steel wool and oil light) bore is good, I thought the rear sight had been replaced, but apparently it was a factory option. Cycles and clicks perfectly! I also got a full box of ammo with it...should I shoot it?

Thanks Guys!

I like! :)

The twist on the end of the tube mag, and the grip on the stock leads me to guess it is a 141A Gamemaster.

The fore end looks a bit different then in the picture of the one in my gun book.
They have it listed as around $300.00. Made from 1936-1950 (gun traders book 17th edition).

As for shooting it...How common is 30Rem in your area?
Having ammo to sell in the deal with it might be a bonus for someone.
If you do shoot some of it save the brass for the next owner. :)

I'd suspect it is a 14, based on the buttplate. 141 was the updated version., just as the 81 was the modernized version of the 8.
The ammunition is a bit of an orphan. There were the .25, .30, .32 and .35 Remingtons. The latter is the only one in production. Can't see any reason why the rifle should not be fired, though. If the rifle is going to be used, lay in a supply of brass, and get dies. Donnelly suggests making cases from .30-30 or .225Win., lathe turning the rim, cutting a new extractor groove, and forming.

Stocking, barrel length, I think. Mechanism is the same. With these older rifles, condition really drives collector value. Incidentally, these 14 series rifles were designed by the the same chap who invented the Pedersen device and the Remington Model 51 pistol. The spiral in the magazine is to tip the rounds so that they are not point against primer.
If you are going to sell the rifle on behalf of the estate, might be an idea to hang onto the ammuntion to sell with the rifle. Could sweeten the deal.

Great info! I actually bought the guns (were going to be turned in)...just waiting for the tranfers. I didn't want all of them, but it was an all or nothing kind of deal, and there were a couple that I reallllly wanted.

I'm just trying to get an idea for when I hit the EE with them. I think I'll hold on to the ammo for the buyer though.....while it would be nice to shoot it...I can shoot the others :)

To echo tiriaq, you've got a Model 14; the "updated" 141 has a flat shotgun-style buttplate and a "semi-beavertail" flattened forearm, instead of the ringtail style.
