Some say just buy the Express TAC and mount your own magpul furn. But the FDE cerakote really elevates this particular gun. Thoughts?

lets hope it does not turn out to be the disaster that the powder coated rem 870,s were
that cost Remington millions.
like almost everything in like its all about the prep.

Rough guts and instaflake finish. Yuuuk.
Previous finish types maybe, but not with the cerakote finish (from my understanding)

I read where someone took a knife to the receiver of this shotgun and couldn't even scratch it.

Rough guts is still a concern with the Express. I might go with a 590 because of that aspect. I've heard chamber polishing doesn't always help either.

Rem will also send you a new extractor if the polish doesn't fix the issue. Both are quick and easy way to fix rough guts.

Thanks, but the extractor is riveted, so a gunsmith is required. Unlike the screwed ones on the Mossys.
Really like option for the choke though without having to get a longer duckgun. Tough call. That FDE is damn sweet. Just not sure it's worth the possible hassle

If you're gonna replace the extractor you might as well make it the non-MIM one. Part#16176 available from WGP or Brownell's under 20 bucks.
It will take a wee bit more than an extractor swap and a chamber polish to smooth out the Express.
I'm a little sceptical of claims that someone was unable to scratch this finish with a knife, but I've been wrong before.

I do kinda like the look of these 870's but IMHO you'd be better off buying a 870P in the first place if you're stuck on this platform. Or at least a Wingmaster.

This having to polish chambers on brand new shotguns seems bizarro to me. But, I'm old and demanding.

The extractor is not rivited, you might be thinking of the ejector. And the extractor can be changed in seconds.

Thanks, you're right, ejector I meant.

I'm with you on everything here. I'm not sold on the platform at all and I have more reservations than anything with the express line.
