If anybody is interested. I just got an 8" digital caliper at Princess Auto. Regular price $99.99, on sale for $48.99. They also have a 6" model (not on sale) for $64.99. It's made in China, but really, what isn't?!

hummmmm I feel kinda stupid. It looks like the same 6" I saw at Pricess but for half the price. The buttons are the same colour, same position and everthing.

Don't feel bad it appears to be the same caliper that Lyman has been selling for 3 times the price! LoL

I bought one of the Canadian Tire jobies a year ago just to see how long it would last and so far I am impressed. As accurate as my RCBS caliper it's display is great for my middle-aged eyes. ;)

That's why I bought that one too. I thought it look exactly like the Lyman one that they sell for $69.00 for the 6". Oh well, I'll keep this one, maybe I'll have a gun that shoots 8" rounds one day

Thanks Boo, I went out and bought one right away. At 40 bucks after taxes you could hint to the loved ones that it would be a great stocking stuffer.KD

I have bought 3 digital calipers so far. All are inaccurate. I have tested them and found them to be off. I also went to a tool merchant and we tested several digital calipers by measuring a set of feeler gauges. We measured all the calipers on the .005, the .010, the .025, and the .035 all digital calipers showed a different reading and the range of discrepency was wider the larger the measure. I clued into this while measuring ammunition I was trying to identify. nothing that my caliper showed matched the "cartidges of the world" specifications. That lead me to test several diferent makes of digital calipers on the market. I was not very impressed, as I really like the idea of "digital". This is my opinion and everyone is entitled to my opinion

Like everything else, it probably comes down to quality. You can't expect something that costs $40 to be extremely accurate down to the thousandth of an inch. It would be nice, but it's not realistic.

I have a digital I have been using for years, but I dont like having to run out and buy batteries every year, and it's quite finicky. I have been slowly reverting back to non-digital, and rarely if ever use the digital one now.

I guess I got lucky with one of those $40 digital calipers. It's an ITC brand, but looks like the rest of them. It's within .001" at every point under 1.000" and read 2.999" on the setting gauge for an expensive 3"-4" mic.
