I had a CZ 455 American with both .22 and .17 barrels. What I found with .17 HMR was far fewer choices in ammunition compared to .22 and was more susceptible to changes in point of impact with crosswind. A person can buy the very best competition grade .22 LR for less than .17 HMR ammo. Guess which barrel I used more. Do you want precision, in which case go with a quality .22 bolt action, or blow up rather than just kill squirrels (go with .17 HMR)?
All a 10-22 is good for is spraying lead... a bolt action .22 is so much more accurate and leads to improving the shooter's skills.

Wrong on both counts. All a 10-22 is good for is spraying lead... a bolt action .22 is so much more accurate and leads to improving the shooter's skills.
