Dillion 550

I was wondering if anybody out there could tell me about this unit. I inherited one in a box and know nothing about them. All I could find on the net was 550B and 650. It comes with shell plates and 2 sets of dies.
Any help would be appreciated.

Dillons can be a little tricky to set up but once it's setup it works like a champ. I think the Dillon video (based on the 550B) is on youtube. It's worth watching before you try to do the setup. I did and setup went smooth.

As far as I know and i could be wrong, the difference between the 550 and 550B is the positive return rod for the powder measure. other wise they are the same press. Love my 550B. I find it very versatile as it can be used like a single stage, turret or progressive if you want.

you have one of the best presses out there. if you have any problems setting it up give Dillon a call. their service department is the best out there.

Do a youtube search - plenty of info there. That's what got me reloading on a Dillon550.

From what I read and advice, don't get 650 without case feeder otherwise, it won't be much of an upgrade from 550B. That said, I ended up with the 650 /w case feeder. Planning to load tons of 9mm and 44 mag... .223 will be next but I think I'm going to drop the .223 brass in the tube. I'm going to cheap out on the case feeder plate for now.
