550 does all that and more if not set up and operated correctly.
Double charge = operator's error - 550 does not move rounds to the next station on it's own, manual indexing.
Once properly adjusted it works very smoothly (at least for me) as long as I don't forget to put next piece of brass or bullet.
It drops primers occasionaly and jams. Takes 3 sec to fix.
Mine is currently set up for 9mm and 223 ( swapping takes 5 minutes max, no adjustment for dies or anything), roughly 25k rounds loaded since new.
I'm pretty satisfied with my 550. I find it to be a good balance between speed and ease/cost of conversion. I load the following calibres on it:
9mm
.38 Special
.45 ACP
.308
.303
The only major drawback is that the powder measure isn't as consistent with extruded powders as with ball powders, but you can adapt other powder measures to fit if you really want to use stick powders and want more accuracy.
I've got two 550's and they kick a$$, One for handgun's and the other for rifle's. Later on i'll be getting a 650 and you gotta love their no BS lifetime warranty, Even when you bought it used
I couldn't agree more. I love mine as well. We load many calibers (i.e. 38 spec, 357 mag, 223, 243, 9mm, 45acp, 40s&w) and have never had problems with it. Highly recommend it.
550's are the most used and proven progressive press ever made. It's only weak points are the primer slide (keep it clean) and the crank that breaks occasionally.
