Dillon 550 problem

I've got an older 550 that I bought used..It's got an annoying habit of spewing spent primers all over the place while I'm resizing the brass. The part that's supposed to catch the spent primer isn't opening and closing properly...Is this an adjustment issue or is there something wrong with the part and I should order a new one?

Straighten/Replace the spent primer catcher pin, part # 13998. It is likely bent. You should be able to find them at just about any hardware/auto parts store if you don't want to wait. Cheap like borsht.

safety pin or a sewing needle or pin - better steel - (don't tell my wife where the pins went)will not bend out of shape so easily. I like a safety pin as it is easy to remove to clean the slide once in a while.

... and a small piece of medical tape from the frame to the primer bin helps reduce the number of those that bounce off the pot metal bin to the floor.

I also opened up, deburred and chamfered the holes in the spent primer catch before using the paper clip option and it works like a charm now.

Just tie the little zip lock bag around the spewing end of the thing and hang it off the safety pin , All spent primers will drop right into it by themself. No biggi - Biggs

I made a deflector from a piece of cardboard from a primer box
