Dillon 550B mounting and cartridge container

Just installed my new/used Dillon 550B. I'm using Pat Marlin's RockDock mount system so it is not directly mounted to the bench but pretty close to directly mounting to the bench.

There is a ramp that sends out finished cases from the last station but I figured one of them blue buckets would fit right on that assembly. None of the blue buckets I have will fit on it and the picture in the manual shows a separate shelf that is part of the loading table where the blue bucket for the finished cartridges rests just under the ramp.

Am I imagining things or shouldn't it be obvious that you should be able to hang off a blue bucket off that ramp/bracket and not require a modification to your reloading bench for finished cartridges to fall into?

In the standard Dillon strong stand a separate ramp extension is provided in the kit and bolts directly to the predrilled stand..and you attach the Blue bucket to that. you may be able to order just the slide extension and attach it to yours if you drill it and put spacers in to get the right angle.

Of course the stands would need to be similar heights and widths.

For connecting directly to the bench I don't think there is space to have the Blue bin connected to the press..

Use a plastic funnel and 3" of vinyl tubing off the last station, down to a bucket on the floor.

You might want to give Dillon a call..

On a Dillon 650 XL there is a Black bracket near the base of the press where the bucket slides on.. but if the Strong stand is not used the Bucket would be too low down to be attached.. so it has to sit on the table ..

I have my 550b on a RockDock system and everything fit exactly as normal. I am not sure exactly what you mean so can you post a picture or take a picture and send it to me and we can compare and see where the difference is.

I posted a couple of pictures a while ago, you can sort of see the mount on the right.

The RockDock is excellent and what I did on my bench is used my router to recess it into the bench so when it is not in use I made a piece of wood to cover it up. I have all my equipment mounted on home made plates exactly the same size as Pat's and it only takes a second to switch from my rock chucker to my Dillon 550 or lock n load or one of my lubers etc.

Wow! The recessing idea is great! I'm working with 2.25" of plywood on the top of my bench so I should be able to do something like that as well. Don't have a router or the skill but seems like a GREAT idea! Bit silly to redo it now that I got it done but at least now I know how to mount the RockDOCK real well!

Here is a photo of mine. My question is, how does the blue bin attach to the bracket? If it just hangs off it then I don't have the right blue bucket and I'll call Dillon and order a replacement.

Another question. I found that the inner screw for the bracket/ramp which is hooked to the RockDock, I found was WAAAY too long and if I tighten it it pushes against the RockDock base not allowing me to pull the plate out any more. Tried to find a replacement of the same size which was shorter but wasn't able to. I suspect Pat might have just mistakenly put a longer one on and figured I should be able to source a shorter one locally but no luck so far at Brafasco.

This photo is not at the best angle. Will get another one tonight.

As reloaderRick said it comes from the factory with the bracket that you screw to the bench normally. With the rockDock system you screw that bracket right to the top plate on the rockdock itself. So when you pull the 550 out and in the bracket is attached to the top plate and goes with the whole setup.

Go to http://castboolits.gunloads.com/sho...ROCKDock-reloading-bench-Docking-Mount-System and go down to post 16 and 17 and you will see the bracket is attached to the top plate. If this is how yours is attached then you must have the wrong blue bin.

As far as the screw question it has been a couple of years but I do remember having to change to a smaller screw on something on the dock, I just don't remember which ones.

Yeah sounds like the wrong bin. That is how my bracket installs as well. Now here is how awesome Dillon is. I called them and they are sending me a replacement bin under warranty with shipping included. They said the bin was $2.95 but shipping would have been $22 so they are just putting it under warranty and charging me 0.

Going to try some other sources for a smaller screw. Man that setup of yours looks nice with the recessed rock dock!

Dillon is great for that, they put it under warranty and charge nothing. If you know someone with a router it is nice to have it recessed so when you are not using it you have nothing protruding up from the bench.
