Hmm, I started to reload some .40S&W last evening and I can't get the OAL to be consistent.

I am trying to set it at 1.132 and it wandering up and down even on the next bullet out around +/- .007

Any suggestions

thanks

.oo7?
Seems pretty good for handgun ammo.
Your brass, and, or bullets are probably out that much.
You may want to add tension to your shell plate, if it is loose and causing issues.

Thanks Guys,

Yup, I did the above. so trying to get 1.132 and ending up with up around 1.140 is acceptable?

I'm using 180gr wolf hollow points and once used brass

...Im still new to reloading hoad no issues with the 38 HBWC :)

Thats acceptable yes. If you want to tighten it up a bit, you can order the toolhead clamp kit from unique tek. It basically locks the toolhead in place on a 550b and stops it from wiggling around. I put this kit on mine and it tightened up the COAL for my finished rounds.

I'm loading some 9mm to 1.135 and I get mostly between 1.134 and 1.136 with a few up to 1.140. I don't worry about a few thousandths of an inch because the bullet component probably has a tolerance of a few thou, as does the case I'm sure. My callipers probably have a small tolerance as well and then there is operator tolerance/error in using the measuring tools.

OK their are way to mitigate this.. But both the toolhead and shellplate can wander... You can shim the head and make sure the plate is tight

However since you are using the top of resize die to top out the stroke... you will always have some deviation...
