dillon 550B powder dispensor accuracy

I am just about to begin reloading. Bought a 550B from a buddy that was never used for a song. I plan to reload hunting rifle calibers for long range (500 yds and up) and am usure if the powder dispenser is accurate enough. Any help or suggestion appreciated.

What rounds are you planning to reload ?

If you want precision ammo you should be weighing every charge

Be okay for plinking ammo if your using ball powder

It will be fine - just use ball powders.

I'll be loading 300 win mag first for long range.

I found mine very accurate for pistol loads. 0.1gn with cooperative powders, ball and fine flake.

Oh: One thing I found is great for these presses is: h ttp://www.mrdial.com/

It doesnt change the accuracy of the measure. What it does is makes small adjustments of the dispenser really easy and tool-less. Fairly inexpensive also.

for target loads set it low then drop to pan and trickle up

The reason I sold my 550 was because it would not throw Varget accurately enough for my long range loads. All over the map from +2.0 gr to -2.0 gr.
I understand the 550 is the catsass for pistol and might even be great for loading ammo for service condtions or plinking with ball powder.
