Dillon 650 fail-safe shoulder washer problems

It keeps breaking!
it leaves the the return bracket (and falls down) then gets compressed between the bracket and the spring.
is it supposed to stay on the return bracket all the time?
what am I doing wrong?

I broke three of them before I just taped mine in place. No problems since.

it just becomes a hassle if I want to change calibers

It doesn't need to be tight only needs to touch it on the return stroke...
