Dillon 650 poder check die on dillon 550B

Ok, well I thought I would get some insight and opinions to see if people have done this and find out what to look for before I start drilling in the 550 tool head.

I currently use a Dillon 550b which I am happy with and I would like to add the Dillon powder check die system on my 3rd station that works on the 650 tool head.
I know I would have to drill a hole in the toolhead for the actuation rod.

I would like input from anyone that has done this with their 550B.
What diam hole and where on the toolhead in regards to the die is best for making contact with the shell plate.

You could.. But are you going to seat and crimp in the same station?? the reason it works on the 650 is that it still has 2 stations.. beyond it..
 
If you don't crimp, how do you get rid of the case mouth flaring left by the powder/expander die?
 
I had one on my 1050 for about a week...and took it off. I opted to use that station for something more usefull (bullet feeder)

In my limited experience with the powder check...you would be giving up alot (seating and crimping at the last station) and gaining very little.

Even with a fully automated press...I still focus my eye on the case just before the bullet drops in...a habit I just can't get away from.

It's worked thus far...well over 100,000 rounds loaded with no squibs and no doubles...

This is for pistol rounds...there would probably be a benefit if you planned to use it for rifle where a visual check is next to impossable...

I suggest you don't drill the toolhead or use the crimp station for powder check, but rather buy a small convex mirror and fix it on the press so you can see inside the case at the bullet seating station and see if there's powder. After a while looking in the mirror before you seat the bullet becomes habbit. That's what I did and I never had a single squib since.
