I haven't tried it yet, but will have to soon b/c I just bought a S&W 629 6.5". :) But dealer said it's going to take 2-3 weeks to xfer instead of 2-3 days last year!

My local shops don't have any dillon stuff I need in stock, so I'm going to order directly from dillon. I added up my list and now I'm deciding if i should waste ~$80USD on an entire primer assembly system.

I did a few readings from US sites and people complain about converting the primer assembly as the hardest part and some even went and bought another 650 just to have one in small primer and large primer. WTH? I just saw youtube video and it doesn't look that bad. The guy did it in a few minutes and it seems like a waste to even buy a complete assembly so that I don't need to change the plate.

Just a quick heads up on you dillon experts. I will attempt a mock change sometime this weekend.

Thanks

Just convert, it's not bad while reading the how to in the manual. Whole machine change over from 45acp to 9mm in 30 minutes.
Did that 6 times then went out and bought a second XL650 in 9mm!!

I sure want to buy another 650. But I have to draw the line somewhere. :( First I was cheap, I figure why not just spend $30 on a tool head and dies. That idea quickly ended after adjusting powder dispenser and weighing powder with two scales to validate each other. I need to buy a better scale too. So now, I'm going to reload 223 and 44 mag with quick change and the only thing I'm not going to bother with is powder check. I'll swap that out, but will buy the die head for it. Another $12 into this mess, no big deal anymore. I keep telling myself I'll save in the long run. I'm about 2k rds from paying back my 9mm setup. Casting my own boolits helps a lot.

I don't even want to add up how much I actually spent and will spend to get convert dillon to 44mag and 223. First I was thinking about just buy cheap brass trimmer then I said forget it after watching youtube videos. Same with swage.... Went for dillon 1200B trimmer and going to order super swage.

Thanks!

I convert mine from 9mm to .45ACP. I just load lots of 9mm, switch over to 45 and load lots of it so that I'm not changing the setup as often.

Changing the primer system from large to small primers is really only a mater of 5 to 10 minutes on top of the time it takes to change calibers and is quite simple after you have done it a few times. If you want to spend money on something to speed up caliber changes buy a tool head, and powder measure for each caliber you use.

i load on my Dillon everything from 45, 223 to 308, 243 and even my 45-70.
i have toolheads set up with the dies and each tool-head has its own powder measure/ dispenser.

it does take me about 1/2 an hour to get everything set up and the charge set from start to productions but boy when its set up i can have lots of fun.

i kinda like to watch it all flow in full production, just something about it that make me feel good.

......now if they only made another station on it that would lubesize the lead bullets before the seating station.......

I totally forgot to report about this thread. Yup, it takes about 5 mins to change this part.

I'm glad I didn't cheap out on extra tool heads and powder dispenser.

BTW, after trying to unjam 223 brass my case feeder. I ended up severely cracking up the clear plastic case feeder funnel. It's still in one piece, but it can fall apart if I get too rough with it. Totally my fault.

I emailed Dillon and they'll replace that part for free along with a few small primer pickup plastic part. I broke one and 2nd one is not working too well. I just need to pay for $15 shipping. The guy even suggested to look for other parts that are about to fail to take advantage of the shipping costs.

This and price were the only two reasons I needed to buy a Hornady L&L...:D

Caliber change over with primer change and case feeder change in 5 min, got to love it...

I would like to try a Dillon some day to see what I am missing...;)
