Dillon 650

Take a good look at Hornady loc and load .. Less parts than the. Dillion ... I have a Dillion and after looking at the Hornady ...at hunt feast in Ontario ...I should of went with the Hornady .... Just my opinion .... Dave

Just did a quick shopping cart on dillons website with all I want for my xl650, with the case trimmer, case feeder, various accessories, quick change kits, vib tumbler, etc etc etc, 3000$. eh. Will keep my loadmaster right now I think ;)

a bit more headache when you loading large rifle rounds (such as 308) and get a case stuck in the die. will be lots of powder spill after crank out the platform and when shell holder turns. My recommendation: de-prime and resize all large rifle cases before you feed them into the case feeder

On my LNL do the 300 caliber deprime and resize on first pass. Then powder, seating, crimping on second pass. Bullet seating depth are all over the place seating and full length resizing at same time.

You forgot to include case loader, bullet loader and pack of two-four for the dillion that is not required for the loadmaster. Vib tumbler, REALLY :bangHead:

I like vib tumbler to remove lube on completed pistol rounds, or prepped rifle cases. It works fine for that use.

I have 2 SS tumblers, a large US cleaner, and a vib tumbler. Each one has it's uses.

FL resizing should not be done on a progressive on the same head as powder/ bullet and crimp. We all agree. DO it on a separate head, or do it single stage before.

I use my 650 for various pistol calibers and also .223 and 30-06. Only thing with doing any cases with a fair amount of powder in them is possible powder spill as the shell plate indexes. Easy fix - multiple ways and life is good.

As for the noise, every time I get going on the 650 I keep thinking it sounds like the intro to the song Money by Pink Floyd.

I use an XL650 to load my long range match ammo (300 to 1000 yards). The ammo is good enough for top level competition (national and international).

There's really only two things I do differently when making 1000 yards .308 ammo, compared to loading up a zillion rounds of AR-15 blasting ammo:
- I don't use the press-mounted Dillon powder thrower (I throw from a bench-mounted Redding BR-30; this past year I think I have reluctantly concluded that I could pick up a few points if I trickle and weigh my long range ammo, however I'll continue to throw charges for ammo used at 600m and closer)
- I use a good seater die (RCBS competition series; Forster is just as good; just bought a Whidden and though I have not yet had a chance to try it out yet it looks to be at least as good)

^This.

I do basically the same for high precision loading, you can just pull the brass pin on the seating station and use it like a single stage if you want. I use the casefeeder etc to de-prime, then tumble, then use the casefeeder again to size. Runout has been non-existent when using Redding Comp dies (0-2 thous). Some very good shooters use a 650 for everything.

There are many threads over on Enos' forum with tips to get the powder thrower to be more consistent.

Couple of tips - clean under the shell plate once in a while. I find this helps with keeping everything consistent. Also, it does not like long rounds when using a seating die with a floating sleeve. For example, 284 Win loaded long with a 180 Berger will not clear the die before it indexes. There is a workaround for that but it is a PIA.

the 1050 comes with the case feeder once you add all that to the 650 it costs more...

The case feeder just loads the tube you can do it by hand it's not that much slower.

the caliber change kits for the 1050 are twice the price.

I reload for 6 calibers right now (and plan to keep it pretty much that way also). 9, 38, 357, 45, 223, 308

6 caliber changes on a 1050. expensive.... already is on a 650
