Dillon Square Deal "B" or RL 550B?

The bench is made, the money is saved, now which one?

I am torn between the Square Deal "B" and the RL 550 B.

Aside from the fact the 550 can do riffle cartridges, does anyone have any opinion on which is best for reloading 9mm, .40 and .45?

Any input is appreciated.

Just the fact that the SDB has proprietary dies is good enough reason to go with the 550

The SDB is best left for a single caliber where space is at a premium.

What Canuck said, a sdb press is excellent if set up for one caliber, if you are planning on doing more than one; which it sounds like the 500RL is the one you want.

My solution was to buy 4 x SDBs; one in each: 9mm, .40 S&W, .38 Spl, and .45 ACP.

I've been reloading pistol ammo (.40 and 9mm) on my SDB for almost a decade now. I use a separate single stage press to handle rifle ammo and other pistol ammo (.38 and .357). Not a bad set up but if I was starting from scratch I would go with a Dillon press that uses standard dies and can have a case feeder added at a later date. If you can get a real good deal on the SDB go for it. If you're thinking retail, get the 500RL.

Just my thoughts. YMMV.

The 550 is the better choice if you plan on switching calibres regularly. Conversion parts are less expensive and swaps are quicker.

Stay AWAY from SDB. Just my 2-cents.

I love the SDB.

I regularly switch between .45, .40, 9mm and 44 mag. No big deal to change calibers at all.

It's a very slick working press.

I have no experience with the 550B so can't comment on that. I don't believe that it auto-indexes like the SDB does.

have you checked out the hornady, i've got 2 550Bs & love them but there is always a diff way to look things
